How to Play Ludo Online: Rules, Strategy and Tips
Ludo is one of those games almost everyone grew up with, and it is still a great way to pass twenty minutes with family. You can play Ludo online for free in your browser now, against friends or the computer, with no app to download. Here is how it works and how to get better at it.
The rules of Ludo
Ludo is for two to four players. Each player starts with four tokens sitting in their base. The goal is simple. Get all four of your tokens around the board and into your home column before anyone else does.
- On your turn you roll the dice.
- You need a 6 before you can move a token out of your base.
- Once a token is out, you move it forward by whatever the dice shows.
- Roll a 6 and you get to go again.
- If you land exactly on a square where an opponent is sitting, their token goes back to their base.
- The first player to get all four tokens home wins.
How to actually win
There is more to Ludo than luck, and a few habits will win you a lot more games.
Try to keep two or three tokens out on the board at the same time. If you only have one token moving and you roll badly, you are stuck. With a few tokens out, a bad roll still leaves you something useful to do.
Sending an opponent home feels great, but do not chase it blindly. Running after a capture often leaves your own token sitting in the open for someone else to hit. Go for it when the numbers are on your side, and let it go when they are not.
Use the safe squares when an opponent is a few steps behind you, and do not obsess over rushing one token to the finish. Spreading your progress across all four usually beats sprinting a single one home.
